In response to serious accusations that the Honduran election held in November 2017 was marred by serious voting improprieties and manipulation, and to calls from religious leaders in the country calling for solidarity, the 8th Day Center for Justice and faith organizations across the US sent a delegation to help address the plight in Honduras. Delegation members volunteered, at no small risk to their personal safety, to protect peaceful protesters from violence and to challenge US diplomatic officials in Honduras over the continued US support for the Honduran military and silence on abuses taking place in the country.
On April 17, the 8th Day Center, as part of its Lunch & Learn series, will hold an open discussion on the experiences of its delegates in Honduras and the ongoing human rights abuses taking place there. Participants are also encouraged to donate to Honduran faith leaders working to protect political dissidents and hold perpetrators of rights violations in the country accountable.
The event is free and open to the public, but organizers kindly request all attendees to RSVP by April 17. You can do so by contacting JoAnne Harbert Bahti by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 312-641-5151 ext. 116.
