CCDBR voices its support for Assange’s Ecuadorian asylum request
Posted on July 9, 2012
CCDBR recently sent the fax below to the Ecuador embassy regarding WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The fax is in response to Ecuador’s decision to continue to house Assange in its embassy while his application for asylum is pending. To read more about the issue, visit BBC News.
Fax to: Her Excellency Nathalie Cely Suarez, Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador, Washington D.C.
Please convey to President Correa:
By unanimous vote at its meeting of 26 June 2012, the board of the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights (CCDBR) voted to commend your earlier statements concerning WikiLeaks and Julian Assange, and to express the hope that your government will grant his asylum request.
Let Ecuador stand as the beacon for the free flow of information and opposition to capital punishment and political imprisonment.
Many thanks,
Respectfully,
Robert Clarke, President
